Senior Product Architect
Job Title: Senior Product Architect
Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 2 days per week
Position Overview: Biller Genie is looking for a Senior Product Architect to define solution architecture on our largest and most complex initiatives. You will sit between Product and Engineering leadership, turning business goals into clear, testable requirements that engineers can estimate and build with confidence, and making sure that what Product believes it has asked for is what Engineering will actually build.
You will own the requirements elaboration and solution architecture for multi-team initiatives across our automated A/R platform, including payments, payment gateway and accounting integrations. You will also set the standards the Product Architecture team works to and mentor Product Architects as the team grows across Belfast and Orlando.
This role suits someone from a software development background who wants to shape what gets built, not only how it is built.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Defining solution architecture
- Own the solution architecture for major, complex, multi-team initiatives.
- Ensure solutions and requirements meet the needs of Engineering, Software Architecture, Security, QA, UX and Legal, including compliance obligations (e.g. PCI DSS), balancing them to reach the best outcome for Biller Genie.
- Record design choices in plain business terms, tracing each one back to the use cases and business rules it serves.
- Partner with Product leadership on roadmap feasibility, sequencing and scope, and with Engineering leadership on readiness for build.
- Evaluate third-party vendors and integrations against product requirements.
Shaping requirements
- Review requirements from Product for clarity and completeness, separating the underlying business need from any prescribed solution.
- Lead requirements elaboration, bridging any gaps and capturing features as use cases, business rules, acceptance criteria, process flows and impact assessments that Product, Engineering and QA all read the same way.
- Make sure requirements account for edge cases, resilience, security needs and our existing solution ecosystem.
- Refine requirements once a solution is chosen, so they account for its design, constraints and trade-offs.
- Produce clear diagrams (process, sequence, state and context) that explain how the platform behaves.
- Maintain traceability from business goal to specification, acceptance criteria and test.
Understanding impact
- Assess the impact of each change and use what you find to ground elaborated requirements and solution designs in how the platform actually behaves and what the change will affect.
- Confirm how the platform behaves today by working with Engineering, QA and Support and by reading code, data and existing documentation.
- Identify what a change touches beyond its stated scope, including other features, integrations, data, security and teams, record the dependencies and risks, and make them visible to decision-makers.
- Log open questions, assumptions and decisions with a named owner, and drive them to resolution.
Growing the team
- Mentor Product Architects and review their work, raising the quality and consistency of requirements across the business.
- Define and improve the templates, standards and AI-assisted tooling the Product Architecture team uses.
Working smarter
- Make extensive use of AI to speed up research, requirements capture, solution design and delivery, using it to support your judgment, not replace it.
- Automate repetitive work across the team to free up more time for analysis and judgment, making the team more efficient and cost-effective.
- Help streamline and automate Biller Genie's Value Delivery Life Cycle (VDLC), the process that takes work from intake to launch.
- Assess the impact of change, both in your own role and across the VDLC, adapt to it, and support others through it.
Essential Criteria:
- 6+ years of hands-on software development experience on B2B SaaS products, including 2+ years leading solution design and technical decisions on complex initiatives.
- A track record of leading requirements elaboration and solution design for integration-heavy B2B SaaS initiatives that span several teams.
- Experience writing, or working closely from, use cases, business rules and acceptance criteria.
- Experience working closely with software delivery teams using tools such as Linear or Jira.
- Legal right to work in the UK
Technical skills
- Able to read code, APIs, SQL and database schemas to confirm how a system behaves today.
- Strong diagramming skills (e.g. UML, C4 model, BPMN, Mermaid).
Leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting trade-offs and risks to senior leadership in plain business terms.
- Experience defining practices, templates or standards for an analysis or architecture team.
- Experience mentoring or coaching other analysts or architects.
Ways of working
- Excellent at distilling the important information from complex input and articulating it clearly and unambiguously, using the best tools for the job.
- Able to build strong working relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and to balance their competing needs.
- Rigor and attention to detail: distinguishing what is stated from what is assumed, and never filling a gap silently.
- Comfortable working with a degree of uncertainty, and driving open questions to resolution.
- Extensive hands-on use of AI to speed up research, requirements and solution design.
- Experience building or shaping AI-assisted tooling (e.g. Claude Code skills) for analysis or documentation work.
- A track record of automating repetitive work, including for others.
- Comfortable managing change: assessing its impact, adapting to it and supporting it, both in your own role and across the wider delivery process.
Desirable Criteria:
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science or a related discipline, OR equivalent commercial experience
- Deep experience in payments, fintech, invoicing or accounts receivable (card and ACH processing, payment gateways).
- Working knowledge of PCI DSS and data-security requirements for payment platforms.
- Experience with accounting system integrations (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero, Sage).
- Experience working in a team distributed across the UK and the US.
- An architecture or business analysis certification (e.g. TOGAF, a cloud solutions architect certification, IIBA).
- Private health insurance
- Group life death benefit
- Auto-enrollment pension with employer contributions matched to 5%
- 25 days holiday per year
- 10 statutory/bank holidays per year
- Opportunities for professional growth and development
- A collaborative and innovative work environment
